Jack Ma’s successor is also a mystery to Alibaba employees

Taobao and Tmall chairman Yang Yong, who will take over as CEO of Alibaba on Sept. 10, is a stranger even to some of the group’s longtime employees.

Alibaba is in the midst of the biggest power transition in its 24-year history after announcing the appointment of a new chairman and chief executive to succeed Zhang Yong.

Accordingly, Cai Chongxin, executive vice president of Alibaba, will serve as chairman. Meanwhile, the CEO role will be filled by former e-commerce CEO Eddie Yong.

Yang Yongqiang is one of the co-founders of Alibaba, but he is a figure of mystery even to some longtime employees of the Chinese e-commerce giant.
